OK OK. So I realize this isn’t an actual recipe. But I still wanted to share my exciting news. I bought a blender/food processor. I’ve been looking for a food processor for the last few weeks to try making my own pesto. I just haven’t been happy with any of the ones I found at the store. After asking around, a few people at work suggested that I first try an emersion blender. And that Cuisinart was the way to go. Checked on Amazon and I was pleased to find out that the “smart stick” was only $30.
Grabbed my 20% off coupon to Bed Bath and Beyond (seriously, never go there without one. They mail them every week) and went to go buy my blender. But once I got to the store, I started having doubts. The blades on the $30 emersion blender looked pretty weak. There was no way it was going to chop what I needed. There was a $50 version with a “chop” attachment, but I wasn’t thrilled with it. Thankfully after speaking with a sales person, we found this baby. For about $60, it will chop, puree, liquefy, and mix just about anything you want. Not to mention crush ice. I can make pesto, my own soups, smoothies, margaritas…you get the idea. With the coupon, I spent $52. And it was worth every penny.
I bought a container of strawberries from Trader Joe’s and was super disappointed to see that within less than 24 hours they started to look a little off. I guess that’s what happens when you buy non-genetically enhanced fruit? In an effort to save them, I decided to make a smoothie. Threw them in the blender and then added some frozen rasberries. I don’t actually own an ice cube tray (I know, it’s weird), so I had to skip that step. Then I added a bit of protein powder (that I stole from my boyfriend) and almond milk. I definitely can recommend the almond milk at Trader Joe’s. I’m technically lactose intolerant so I’ve been looking for a milk replacement. At under $2 a box, this might be it. Not to mention you can keep it in your pantry until you open it.
And there we go. My first smoothie. Couldn’t actually finish all of it in one sitting. Might be the protein powder, but I found it very filling. Saved the rest for breakfast.
