Best thing I’ve made ever. No seriously. I know I already have a recipe for salmon patties but when I came across this one and had that piece of left over salmon, I thought why not.
Also I learned with this recipe that breadcrumbs are never needed for salmon patties. The original recipe called for them and I immediately wanted to see if I could use the same freezing method I used last time. Worked perfectly.
Salmon Burgers with Green Yogurt Sauce (aka salmon patties #2)

Ingredients for burgers:
3/4 lb skinned salmon, cut into pieces
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp plain Greek yogurt
1 green onion, minced
1 1/2 tsp capers, drained and minced
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 T olive oil
Ingredients for sauce:
2 T plain Greek yogurt
3 T mayonnaise
1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
1 large green onion, minced
1 1/2 tsp capers, drained and minced
Juice of 1 lemon (I used the bottled kind)
Black pepper to taste

I first took the skin off the rest of the salmon. Then chopped it into pieces. Original instructions said 1-inch pieces because they were going to put it into a food processor. But once again, if I can avoid cleaning an extra dish, I will. I just chopped it into tiny bits myself.


Mix the salmon in a bowl with the mustard, Greek yogurt, green onion, capers and black pepper.

After I thought everything was evenly distributed, I formed patties with the mixture. Although there are only 3 in the picture, I had enough salmon to actually make 6 patties. Now, typically I would say cover two plates with wax paper and place the formed patties on top. But I was out of wax paper so I used tin foil instead. It works fine although wax paper works better. Then place the patties in the freezer. I think it took about 25-30 minutes. You want them firm but not frozen. I checked them by gently peeling one of them up from the foil to see if it was sticking together.

Heat the oil in your frying pan and fry up the burgers on medium heat. I did 2 minutes on each side. I probably could have done a bit less as they were a little brown.

For the sauce, just combine all of the ingredients. Pretty simple but I think a key part of why this recipe tastes so good.

And the finish product. Again, I was super happy with the results. In fact, yesterday I bought another piece of salmon because it was on sale and I am planning on making this for dinner.

  1. Yummmm! I made salmon cakes before and they seems similar to this, but that sauce looks awesome. I love your idea for forgoing the bread crumbs. So smart!
