Marvelous Monday – Costco Finds

thehealthydiva

Yay Monday! OK, maybe not yay but I do have some pretty awesome finds to share with everyone. This past weekend, I decided to rent a car. Jake was supposed to be out of town, so I thought I’d enjoy the whole weekend shopping out in the burbs. Jake ended up staying home; I went anyway.

Super excited for my new dresser (thanks to IKEA), my new wallet (thanks to Kate Spade), and my new leather flats (thanks to Sperry Topsiders). But that’s not what I wanted to talk about today. On Sunday, I went to Costco!

I shop at Costco now and then, whenever I can get a friend with a membership and a car to let me tag along. I love it for buying extremely large bags of veggies and large quantities of fish that I use for lunches like this and this.

But this time, I went by myself (I, hmm, “borrowed” a friend’s…identity) so I was able to walk around at a leisurely pace through the aisles. And I hit the jackpot.

First I found two LARGE bottles of Lea & Perrins Worchestershire Sauce for about $6. I did some googling and this is the only brand that I found without some seriously scary ingredients. It’s not Whole30 approved, since it does have molasses and sugar (and tamarind is technically a legume) but if you’re looking for Worcestershire sauce, this is the one you want.

Just for comparison, here is the brand I originally had at home:

Heinz brand includes things like high fructose corn syrup, hydrolyzed soy protein, corn syrup, caramel coloring, polysorbate 80 (what the hell is that?) and soy flour.

Bought another jar of MaraNatha Almond Butter. This stuff is so good I have to be careful not to eat too much of it. But so far I’ve been able to control myself, even though this jar is huge.

Speaking of almonds, bought a 6 pack of unsweetened Almond Breeze for about $6! I have been buying the Trader Joe’s brand, just because it’s typically the cheapest, but this was a deal. The great thing about almond milk is it doesn’t have to be refrigerated until you open it. And it will last for months. So I can put this in my pantry and just use it slowly. The expiration date isn’t until December 2013.

And finally, found a 6 pack of Pacific Vegetable Broth. Now, clearly it’s always better to make your own. But sometimes you just don’t have time for that. I like to always keep a carton or two of vegetable broth in the pantry. I checked the ingredients on this one and they look pretty good to me. Water, carrots, tomatoes, celery, onions, garlic, leeks, sea sale, bay leaves, parsley and thyme. Bam.

Anyway, that’s about it. Just wanted to share my finds. If you have a Costco membership, let me know if there are any other things that I missed that I should pick up.

Have a Marvelous Monday!
