This past weekend I had a blast at Wavefront Music Festival, a three-day electronic dance music festival on Chicago’s Montrose Beach. And I had wanted to write about how to stay on the Whole30 while at a music festival. Unfortunately I learned the hardway that it’s pretty hard. In fact, almost impossible. Especially since you’re not allowed to bring any food in.
What did I eat? Hamburgers. Without the bun. No vegetables to be found anywhere so it really was just the patty. And water. Lots of water. Since beer, soda and lemonade are all out. I didn’t even bother taking pictures because it was so depressing.
So instead I’ve decided to post something more fun. Ever wonder what is in my fridge?
Top Shelf: My kombucha scoby is in the blue bag, glutenfree bread (not typically paleo and I don’t recommend), grind your own almond butter from Whole Foods, left over goat cheese (an experiment pre Whole30 to see if I do better on goat cheese. I don’t).
Middle Shelf: Strawberries, guacamole, pineapple salsa, lots and lots of meal prep for the week.
Bottom Shelf: asparagus, brita (I can’t stand the taste of tap water), green onions, broccoli, leftovers, box of greens, box of arugula.
Produce drawer: Kale from the farmers market.
Top: Butter, lemon juice, lime juice, Trader Joe’s Aioli Garlic Mustard Sauce, Trader Joe’s Thai Red Curry Sauce, pickles, mustard, Sriracha, Chili Garlic Sauce, Trader Joe’s hot sauce, glutenfree BBQ sauce (we should throw this out. I make my own now using Civilized Caveman’s recipe. It’s also Whole30 approved).
Middle: More pickles, fresh farmer’s market apple sauce, Almond Breeze unsweetened Almond Coconut milk (Tastes good but might be too much coconut milk for my stomach), liquid egg whites, lots and lots of jars of homemade mustard, ignore the Pillsbury crap in the back, horseradish.
Bottom: leftover margarita mix from Cinco de Mayo (should probably throw that out…), flaxseed, more pickles, more homemade mustard, cooking white wine (left over from this recipe).
Alright. That’s what’s in my fridge. I obviously didn’t clean up my shelves or secretly toss out the non-paleo foods. This is real life.
Most of the time we’ll also have cauliflower and whole eggs in the there (and occasionally bacon). We just happened to be out when I snapped the picture.
If you guys think something super important is missing, please let me know. It’s always fun to see what items people consider staples
