Happy New Year! I think I can honestly say I had one of the best New Year’s Eve I’ve had in a long time. Jake and I stayed home and watched movies, drank champaign and ate ice cream. And were in bed before 2am. It was awesome.

What I Ate:

Breakfast: Jake and I went out to breakfast at a super cute mexican place at the end of our block, Esencia. One of my favorite things about this place is that two of the four walls are windows. So the place is super sunny and bright. The food is also great. I ordered the breakfast tacos.

Lunch: For lunch Monday I went out to eat with a few friends. Turns out there is a large Indian section of Chicago that I didn’t even know existed. You know the food is going to be good when you look around the restaurant and see that everyone else eating there is Indian. Ordered one of my favorites, Saag Paneer. And of course, Naan. Needed to eat it one last time before my Whole30 starts next week.

Dinner: This meal is definitely Whole30 approved. For Christmas, Jake’s brother bought me the spiralizer. You better believe I will be spiralizing every vegetable from now on. Last night I made two sweet potatoes into noodles, then fried them in coconut oil with chopped onions, garlic powder and cumin. Added chopped sausage. This might be a new favorite meal.

Dessert: Now I’m not a huge dessert person. Definitely not one that needs something sweet after dinner. But since it was New Year’s I decided we needed to celebrate. So I brought home half a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked frozen yogurt.

What I Drank:

When I told Jake I was going to the store to pick up supplies for our night in, he told me he already had the champaign taken care of. Popped this guy open at 11:00pm as we watched the ball drop in New York.

What I Watched:

ball drop on tv

Speaking of the ball dropping, Jake was a little surprised when I whipped out my phone to take a picture of the ball dropping on TV. Maybe it was a little weird.

We also spent our night watching “Our Idiot Brother” and “Safety Not Guaranteed.” I highly recommend “Our Idiot Brother.” Great cast, great acting and the story will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

What I Wore:

leggings, scarf and sweater

For those who are interested, I snapped a picture of my outfit. Because ::drum roll:: I wore leggings in public for the first time. I’ve always felt too uncomfortable to wear something that tight around my lower body. But I found a pair from DailyLook that are a mix between leggings and pants. They have a zipper, back pockets and are made from a thicker material. But really it feels like I’m wearing pajamas.

Scarf: old (similar, similar); Grey Shirt: Target; Dark Grey Cardigan: Target; Leggings/Pants: DailyLook; Suede Boots: gift (similar, similar).

Alright that’s all for now. I’ll be back tomorrow with my grocery shopping list for next week. Also if you missed it, I’m hosting my first giveaway to celebrate my one year blogiversery. Head over to yesterday’s post to enter to win a copy of It Starts With Food!

And as always, don’t forget to check out peas and crayons for more What I Are Wednesday posts.

  1. I feel the same way about leggings! They will look fine in my mirror but I’m always scared to venture out in them because there is no telling what I would look like everywhere else. I do have a pair with pockets though that I wear out a little bit now. ;p The sweet potato noodles look uhhh-mazing!

    1. Haha yay! I debated so long on if I wanted it or not. I told myself that I didn’t need to use up the counter space on a unitasker. So I was soooo excited when I got it as a gift!!

Word of warning, I had some trouble with it at first. But apparently I’m the only one because Jake had no issues. I’m blaming on the fact that I’m left handed and just need more practice. The results however are awesome. Totally worth the money!

  2. I am all for tacos at any time of the day 🙂 I thought Our Idiot Brother was such a sweet movie. I expected it to be pretty bad and was pleasantly surprised!
