I’m all about finding easy meals for dinner during the week. From the moment I wake up at 5am I’m typically moving until I get home from the gym at 7pm. Which gives me about an hour to cook and eat dinner.

I made (aka threw together) this recipe last Sunday. I’ve posted┬ápulled pork recipes before on the blog but this time I wanted to try something a little different. After looking through the internet for inspiration, I started noticing a lot of pulled pork recipes called for brown sugar. No wonder they taste so good.

I try really hard to come up with meal ideas for the blog that don’t use sugar (real or fake). So I thought why not try adding spices like cinnamon? Here is what I came up with. Warning, I didn’t measure my spices #nobodygottimeforthat

Spicy Semi-Sweet Crockpot Pulled Pork

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lb pork shoulder
  • 1 onion, chopped in bigger pieces
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Adobo Chili Powder (this is spicy so be careful with how much you use)
  • Cumin
  • Dried Basil
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Cloves
  • Salt and Pepper

First add your chopped onion to the crockpot, then place your pork shoulder on top. Liberally shake your spices over the meat. Just be careful with the spicy ones, depending on your heat tolerance.

Put the lid on your crockpot and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours.

That’s it. Easy right? Just remember that it takes a while to cook. I started too late on Sunday so it wasn’t done until well past dinner time. But that’s OK. Jake turned it off for me and scooped the meat out into tupperware containers. A quick reheat on Monday night, plus some veggies and we had a really tasty meal.
